Work as an Intern

Many international students are required to complete professional work experience as part of their university or college program. You can apply for your work permit at the same time as your study permit as long as your acceptance letter states that a Co-op or internship is mandatory to complete your study program.

Help Your Spouse Get a Job While You Study

Canada has also made it possible to bring your spouse or common-law partner along for your journey while you study in Canada, they may be eligible for an open work permit that will allow them to work on or off campus full-time while you study, which means they do not need a job offer or a Labour Market Impact Assessment from Service Canada.
Your spouse or common-law partner may submit an application for an open work permit together with your study permit application. Alternatively, if you are already in Canada as a student and your spouse now wishes to join you here, they may apply for a work permit before traveling to Canada.

Stay and Work in Canada after Graduation.

One of the big benefits of university study in Canada is that you can apply to stay and work after you graduate.
You can apply for a work permit or post-graduation work permit (PGWP) before your study permit ends (you can continue to work while you're waiting for your application results). By doing this, you can maintain your temporary status and at the same time you can take steps to obtain your permanent residence.
Working in Canada while studying can be rewarding in many different ways. Not only does it allow you to earn wages but the work experience you obtain is invaluable to your future career.
